My Dakota is a deeply personal project by Webb that documents the landscapes, weather, and small details that make up her own view of the place where she grew up, also while shooting the project her brother died of sudden heart failure, this work is not just a documentation of the place in
which she came of age but a journey
through grief and dealing with loss.
This darkness shows through in what
is also a elegy for her brother.

It is because of these factors that My Dakota it is such an intimate look into South Dakota showcasing a personal and very truthful look into exactly what Dakota is to Webb, how she has dealt with the loss of her brother and how that has, for her impacted on how she views the place she grew up in.

any underlying agenda just the simple capturing of life. This is what makes My Dakota so genuine and open and what draws the viewer in and why it is so easy to identify
with despite the fact that Dakotan life is far from anythingwe in the UK or in many urban
areas will have ever experienced.
This is one of the more personal forms of social documentary photography and while it is not pushing for
any kind of change as many forms of social documentary
are, it is instead documenting at its purest form. Without

The intimacy in this project is most definitely its defining point and the reason it is so successful I will aim in my project ‘The Wall’
to draw influence from this in the intimate look that I will take showing (as Webb has here) a very significant portion of my life.
